Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a cost to use this service?
No. Use of Pluckie.Com is offered without any charge.
Why is uploading so slow?
Generally, the high speed broadband services offered by your DSL or cable provider has extremely fast download speeds but upload speeds are significantly slower. For instance, Time Warner cable has a package that boasts a download speed of 20Mbps which is appoximately 2.44 megabytes per second. However, upload speeds top out at about 3 Mbps or 0.366 megabytes per second. In short, it may take almost 7 times as long to upload a file as it does to download that same file.
How long does it take to convert my video?
Although the answer may sound more like we're avoiding the question, the truth is that it depends. Primarily the conversion itself depends on the size and duration of your video. The longer and larger the file, the longer it will take to process. However, another important factor is the number of other videos that may be waiting to process ahead of yours. The more files that are backed up in the queue, the longer it may take for the conversion to take place.
Why can't I download my converted video directly on my iPhone or iPad?
Even though the final desitination for your video is your iPhone or your iPad, the operating system for the iPhone and iPad does not have a way to natively store downloads from the default web browser. The most straight forward way of getting your converted video on your iPhone, iPad, iTouch, etc is to download it on your computer, add it to your iTunes library and then sync the video to your device.
How come I can't download my converted video anymore?
The purpose of Pluckie.Com is simply to convert a video from one format to another and deliver the converted file back to the owner. As such, we've determined that 3 downloads of the converted file was more than enough to consider the file delivered and queue the file for deletion.
I never got a notification e-mail. What happened?
There are usually 3 main reasons why this happens.
- The notification e-mail landed in your junk/spam folder.
- The e-mail address you provided had a typo.
- The Internet ate it.
The first two situations are controlled entirely by you.
If you are converting videos with Pluckie.Com on a fairly regular basis, you'll want to add our domain, fileroom.com, to your e-mail's "whitelist" or whatever policy/rule gets our e-mails to your inbox.
The second situation is easily remedied by simply being more careful when entering your e-mail address before uploading your file. Our system simply checks that the e-mail address looks like a valid e-mail address.
The third situation is really a way for anyone that has a hard time admitting they are in fact in control of their e-mail address and inbox to blame someone else for the lack notification ;).
